ODBC;

ABBREV. Open DataBase connectivity, all this is a standard database access method, which was developed by our friends at Microsoft.

Access any data from any application regardless of which database management system is handling the data.

ODBC manages this by inserting a Database Driver between the and application and the Database Management system. The main function of this Database driver is to translate the application Queries into the commands that the Database Management Systems can understand.

For everything to work well, like a well oiled machine, both the application and the Database Management system must be ODBC compliant. If this is not the case then the application can not issue ODBS commands and then this means also that the Database Management System(DBMS) can not respond to them. It is very important that the Application and the DBMS are both ODBC compliant for these commands to work that are issued by the application making the queries to the DBMS.
